Academics
Academics at Sarasota Community School are conventional when it comes to the core subjects but unique in our delivery. We strive to meet each student where they are academically and deliver the curriculum in a way that supports their learning style. Community schools offer a broad spectrum of academic and vocational concentrations and electives.
Middle School
Middle school is an important time of transition and growth. Our goal is to strengthen the core fundamentals of math, reading, and writing. We know this will allow them to achieve as they move forward to high school and higher learning.
High School
We have included the complete High School Curriculum below. SCS coordinates all of the different subject areas as students move through the curriculum. At each grade level, English, history, reading, and writing are all working on the same topics and time periods. This gives students a well-rounded conceptualization of the subject matter.
Vocational School
Community Schools support each student individually. Some will be preparing for college and others will be preparing for vocational careers. Either way, our mission is to understand the interests and abilities of every student and help them find and excel in their chosen educational and career paths. that match.
Alternate Path to Graduation
One of the unique educational frameworks of Sarasota Community School is that we support students at their present achievement levels no matter what age, difference, or struggle. We routinely have students who start working toward receiving college credits at 15 years old, and some who will continue bravely working through the core areas of fundamental English and Math while learning vocational skills that match their interests.

Academics
Academics at Sarasota Community School focuses on each adolescent’s education level, strengths, and weaknesses. We believe education is the foundation for students to find their academic and vocational interests. We have a very low student/teacher ratio and can develop an individualized educational plan for each student. For some students, this pace is quicker than their age group, and for others, the pace needs to be slower. Once a student enrolls, we evaluate their capabilities and establish an appropriate curriculum that directly addresses their needs.
Academics are built upon a college-preparatory foundation stressing the stories, writings, and dialogues of the world’s great thinkers, philosophers, scientists, artisans, and writers. Our curriculum focuses on the history of civilization and how we all come to the present together. We require core academic subjects while offering a wide variety of elective classes. Our multi-modality approach and small class size enable students to understand and experience their coursework more fully. This methodology is especially helpful to learning-challenged students, those who have a history of poor academic performance, and students who are ready for a higher level of education than their peers.
